Since opening our doors in 1993, Desert East Animal Hospital has remained proudly non-corporate and independently owned by veterinarians who live and work right here in El Paso, TX. We’re more than just a veterinary clinic—we’re your neighbors, your fellow pet lovers, and your partners in lifelong pet care.

Our Veterinarians

Daniel J. Marquez, DVM

Owner / Veterinarian

Dr. Daniel Marquez is the owner of Desert East Animal Hospital. He is an El Paso native and is proud to provide expert veterinary care in the community he calls home. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Texas El Paso. In 2016, he graduated from the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr Marquez has a special interest in cardiology, radiology, and soft tissue surgery. He takes the time to ensure his clients understand every aspect of their pet’s health. Treating clients and patients like family, educating, and providing affordable care are at the center of his core values. Outside the hospital, Dr. Marquez enjoys traveling with his wife, performing and recording music, playing golf, and watching hockey. Go Stars!

Rachael Klein, DVM

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Rachel Klein is a 1993 veterinary graduate of Texas A&M with an undergraduate degree from her “heart,” Texas Tech. Her special interest is exotic medicine, especially reptiles. She has a king snake at home named Blossom. Dr. Klein enjoys making latch-hook rugs, gardening, and cooking new recipes for herself and Dr. Hopp.

Dr. Klein leads with compassion, clear communication, and deep-rooted experience—helping pets thrive and pet parents feel empowered in every decision.

Christopher Hopp, DVM

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Christopher Hopp is also a 1993 graduate of the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. He has special interests in internal medicine and soft tissue surgery. In his free time, he enjoys spending free time with his wife of 32 years, Dr. Klein, and their 3 frenchies, Paisley, Olive, and Buttercup. He, Dr. Klein, and their Frenchies love getting away to the cool pines in Ruidoso.
